Abode iota vs essentials10/10/2023 I came from Simplisafe where I was paying $25 a month for monitoring with online access (seriously the only real difference between the $15 and $25 plan was online/app control). I got Abode because the over all price for what I wanted (a monitored system with Homekit) seemed like the best. Still waiting on some Homekit improvements, but basics are there and functioning. I've had a good experience overall, but haven't had to deal with customer service yet (I've had the system a little over a year). If you're mostly in it for the DIY, no fee (meaning you don't want monitoring), and Homekit then you can probably put together a system yourself that could end up cheaper and more customizable than Abode. In the mean time, I'm currently looking at the Honeywell Lyric. I really want to like Abode and if they get their act together by then, I'll consider it. I move into a new house in June so I really have then to decide. Adobe doesn't currently seem like it's stable enough for my needs. This isn't something that I want to be constantly thinking about and tinkering with and it needs to be stable and reliable when I travel. Getting the system is 100% about peace of mind and that instantly gets compromised when there are frequent false alarms or malfunctioning accessories. The problem is that I need my home security system to be rock solid reliable. I have a good amount of decently reliable smart home things in my house as it is and I typically don't complain if one of them goes down every couple months for some small reason. It's a constant game of cat and mouse with no across the board standards. Compatibility is all over the place with each passing software update I imagine not only due to the Abode team but with iOS and HomeKit. I think some of this frustration comes with the territory in these DIY devices because of the current convoluted state of the smart home market. There are some people that have great experiences, some with outright horrible experiences, and a good bit in the middle. Thank you everyone for your comments and perspectives! After reading all of this, there really is no simple answer. It seems as though things are breaking all over the place and quality has gone down hill.ĭoes anyone have a good, hassle free experience with their system? Is there any hope that things will get better? Would you recommend buying at this stage? Upon looking at this subreddit and the Apple app store reviews, I’m not sure anymore. I was looking into purchasing an Abode system because it ticks all of the boxes - set it up yourself, great features without the monthly fee, a variety of reasonably priced sensors and cameras, and HomeKit support.
