Critical role rat queens10/11/2023 His fear in going to her service and uncertainty to what she wants gives a sense of dread to the viewer because Vax is our only connection to the Raven Queen aside from the fact that her tomb had Beholders in it and its trap killed Vex. Vax is our only real connection to the raven queen and vex isn't doing a good job selling us on her being "good". Earthbreaker Groon for his limited episodes showed what Kord was all about with his interactions with grog, that Kord isn't a big brawly dude who just likes to hit things, but is more about strength in the real sense and not just physical. We know for example, that Sarenrae for example wants to help others because for the episodes that she is on, Pike servers as a good example of what Sarenrae is. We know she is the goddess of the moment of death, and that she is neither good or evil.īUT, we also don't know what she wants, especially of Vax. Would the Raven Queen allow for a soul-retrieving quest like Matt has mentioned before is a possibility if a resurrection ritual fails, or would that too be seen as an attempt to cheat death? Would Vex (or Keyleth) be tempted to go further to bring Vax back, into the realm of undeath? The Raven Queen has mentioned that Vax has a purpose beyond this death - what could that purpose be, and would we get to see it in play in this or the next campaign?Ī reason for this might be because we haven't really seen much about her yet, despite how much build up there's been. Now, if the resurrection ritual does fail, that opens some interesting discussions. ![]() Raven Queen will not stop Vax from being resurrected unless the dice say so. ![]() Perversion of the sanctity of the cycle, of our very domain, is an atrocity and must be stopped and stamped out. It’s those that find a way to cheat this destiny, halt the progression, corrupt their thread to the point it sickens those around them. So, to bend destiny, to bend these fates, is within our sphere of influence. We must guide these moments across this web. To meet that moment many times before the final death is to come. Some destinies require one to endure beyond the moment. But not all deaths are destined, in that moment. "There is also a difference between bending your thread around destiny, fate-touched, and perverting the thread entirely, for death is sacred. The only reason she would oppose Vax (or any other character) being resurrected would be if she decided that he was fated to die his final death at that moment - which I believe, rather than Matt somehow imposing that on the ritual, will be RPed as the reason for a failed resurrection roll if that happens. She has explicitly said that the fates of certain individuals may involve several temporary deaths and resurrections, and it is only when someone tries to cheat their fated end entirely and live forever, as through undeath, that it is an abomination unto her. ![]() The Raven Queen sees death as a neutral (even beautiful) force in service of fate. So I just thought I would post a thread for clarification of the Raven Queen's canon ideology in Matt's universe: I see the idea thrown around here all the time that the Raven Queen would be 'angry' if Vax were to be resurrected or would not let this happen, or that Vax as a champion of the Raven Queen should be opposing the resurrection of other characters.
